Good results from Guyana mission

successful medical mission
to Guyana, South America:

This was the fourth and most exciting trip to Guyana for me since I left there long ago as a “Missionary Kid.” I was finally able to visit the other five Amerindian SDB churches—a goal of mine for some time.

We held clinics at all six Amerindian sites—two sites per day on two occasions. We also had clinics at Uitvlugt, Wakenaam Island, Dartmouth, and Bona Ventura churches, and briefly visited three other churches, as well as Camp Glory.

All team members were enthusiastic and flexible. The four Guyanese American team members were invaluable, as were the Guyanese who joined us. The three nurses did mid-level practitioner care; they had to as God brought 850 people to the clinics.

The nursing students did progressively more patient care and lab work as the second week went by. The “suitcase pharmacy” was like a well-oiled machine. Thanks, Barbees and Blessings International!

We all worked hard, yet laughed a lot—often at our own mistakes. Mishaps and “missteps” clustered around the docks, the boats, one purple heart paddle, and the Americans. God’s hand protected and led us even through our mistakes.

I want to personally thank the SDB Memorial Fund for their substantial financial help. Most of all, I want to give thanks to God for His mercies.

The outpouring of the Holy Spirit was especially evident the last Sabbath as Pastor Earl Thomas and Oswald James (the indigenous pastors), Pastor Reginald English (our Bona Ventura host pastor), and our team pastor, Paul Andries (who preached), united in leading worship to God. That Sabbath we got a little foretaste of heaven as people from different people groups lifted prayers and songs to God.

We hope to continue involvement in Guyana by assisting a few children who need surgery (cleft lip and palate, etc.). Pray with us that we would be given wisdom and that God would be glorified in this.
